The Berlin Conference was held in order to keep Africa from being held entirely by one power. To be in power of an area it had to be recognized by other states or the state was not held by an one power. This conference produced an event named "The Scramble for Africa" which occurred through the years of 1878 to 1914. This was all expect Ethiopia & Liberia who were independent. Ethiopia had be invaded by Italy but they had been defeated so it was of no shift of power.

- Had controlled over more populated regions.
- Mainly South African territories.

- Gained some land in eastern & southwestern Africa.
- Italy
- Gain control in Libya, Eritrea, and Italian Somaliland.
- Portugal
- Colonized Angola & Mozambique.
